Scottish Media Group (SMG) and Scottish Screen are requesting scripts for 30-minute television dramas as part of an initiative to encourage budding young Scottish writers, writes Alice Macandrew.
The scheme, which SMG is running in partnership with Scottish Screen supported by the Scottish Arts Council Lottery Fund, will see six winning entries produced as half-hour dramas for broadcast on Scottish Television and Grampian.

Scottish Screen will also promote the dramas for theatrical release within Scotland.

Each finalist will receive a budget of£45,000 to shoot the programmes on digital format and Scottish Screen will help any applicant not attached to a production company to find a crew. The winning six will also get the opportunity to take part in a training programme run by Scottish Screen Training.

The initiative, called New Found Land, is open to individual writers and those working within Scottish broadcasting organisations, provided they have never had a TV drama commission. The deadline for applications is 25 June.
