Arri has revealed a series of updates to its virtual production stage, Arri Stage London.

The updates were rolled out by virtual production specialist, VSS, which described the space as one of Europe’s largest and most technologically advanced VP facilities.

The upgraded studio offers more than 700 sq m of creative space. VSS says the stage “provides a complete virtual solution, allowing users to build highly detailed, fully immersive virtual environments within a self-contained, dedicated space”.

The upgrades include:

  • A re-designed Volume layout to offer a far more versatile flexible filming space.
  • Significantly increased in-camera screen size of 36m x 6.5m flown / floating just above floor level.
  • High-definition reflections created via an upgraded ceiling screen to 1.5mm LED.
  • Running of the new Sony OCELLUS camera tracking system.

The Arri Stage London is pre-configured as 24m 180°, or 36m ‘J’ stage layouts. The main wall is 6.5m, which makes it the UK’s tallest fixed volume.

The stage has a 10m floated ceiling, flanked by extendable LED ‘wild wall’ side sections.

VSS director of TV & Film, Nic Maag says: “Our update to the Arri Stage uses some of the most advanced technology available. The scale, flexibility and processing power of the installation is capable of creating a huge variety of immersive virtual environments. We’re really looking forward to working with production to push the boundaries of what can be achieved within this exceptional space”.

Matt Eve VSS director of corporate events, adds: “A key feature of the space is it’s adaptability. The flexible nature of the volume means we can fully support complex movies or hi-end TV shoots, whilst being equally suited to corporate or commercial purposes. Having our technical teams on-site means we are always here, ready to support clients in realising even the most adventurous artistic vision”.

Recent productions using the Arri Stage London include Luther: The Fallen Sun and Knuckles and commercial shoots for AMG Mercedes and Amazon.
