Drive application makes cloud files appear on desktops as if they are on the individual computer without downloads or syncing

Frame.io Drive

Frame.io has launched Drive, a tool to allow cloud files to be usable through desktop applications without downloading or syncing.

Drive connects Frame.io projects to a user’s computer, meaning they are usable in editing, grading or other software without having to download them or sync them with the original file in Frame.io. This avoids the creation of duplicate files across machines and means teams work from one point of truth.

It does this by streaming the media on demand, meaning only the necesarry data is accessed and local caching allows for playback. This workflow is named Frame.io Mounted Storage, and was created in partnership with Suite Studios.

As well as allowing for collaboration across projects, Frame.io Drive also opens up options for making media searchable, organised, and
processed across entire projects. In addition, workflows can be automated and extended.

Enterprise customers are able to access Frame.io Drive now, and other accounts will gain access over the coming weeks.
