The eclipse will be captured during a flight at more than 10,000 metres altitude, with footage distributed worldwide via Starlink and TVU Networks’ cloud platform
Spanish airline Iberia will broadcast the sola eclipse tomorrow (Wednesday, 12 August) live from a special flight the company has organised to observe the eclipse at an altitude of more than 10,000 meters.
The live coverage will be broadcast live across Iberia’s social media and national and international media outlets.
The broadcast is made possible by Starlink technology together with transmission technology from TVU Networks.
A TVU One unit is installed on board the aircraft, which transmits multi-camera footage of the eclipse using the high-speed Starlink connectivity that Iberia is rolling out across its fleet.
The signal then travels to cloud distribution platform TVU MediaHub, from where it is redistributed simultaneously to more than 100 receivers worldwide.
The onboard production will use four cameras mounted at the windows of the A321 XLR aircraft.
Creative direction and technical production of the signal are being handled by El Sótano Doc, in collaboration with Golden News Media, which manages connectivity and distributes the signal to additional national and international media outlets.
The total solar eclipse of August 12 will be the first visible from the Iberian Peninsula since 1912. The phenomenon occurs when the sun, moon, and Earth align so that the moon completely blocks the solar disk as seen from certain points on Earth’s surface.
