Sony has launched its Virtual Mixing Environment (360VME) technology in the UK through a partnership with HHB Communications.

Sony says it has developed 360VME to enable audio professionals to work from anywhere. The technology, as incorporated into Sony’s MDR-MV1 headphones, reproduces the sound field of a multi-channel studio within the headphones so audio post-production specialists can create spatial sound content from virtually anywhere.

Sony has partnered with HHB Communications to offer 360VME to its UK customers. HHB’s London studios will provide measurement services and dedicated software to customers and creators.

The measurement service accurately measures the hearing characteristics in the studio and creates customised 360VME profile data.

Using the profile data and dedicated software, the MDR-MV1 headphones virtually reproduce the sound field environment of the studio. This enables users to produce studio-quality spatial sound in almost any location.

The MDR-MV1 open-back monitor headphones have been specifically designed to provide the best experience for creators working with 360VME, says Sony. They are optimised for spatial sound, and an ultra-wide frequency range from 5Hz to 80kHz.

Sony says the MV1 authentically reproduces the sound field with high precision, with a lightweight, comfortable design that allows for long mixing sessions.

Adrian Price-Hunt, head of Sony’s Personal Entertainment Business in Europe said: “360VME has already transformed workflows for music and audio professionals in other markets, and we’re excited to bring it to the UK with the support of our partners at HHB. With our strong heritage in audio technology, Sony is committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation within this field. We are thrilled to set a new standard for the way immersive content is mixed and experienced and look forward to seeing how creators bring this transformative technology to life.”

John Johnson, CTO of HHB, added: “HHB is delighted to partner with Sony to bring 360VME technology to customers in the UK. We see 360VME as an incredible tool for immersive audio workflows in music, game, film and television content creation.”

360VME has already been adopted by leading music producers, mixing engineers and post-production specialists worldwide, with use cases spanning music recording, immersive audio, and broadcast applications.
