Romily Menzies to lead children’s factual brands

Operation Ouch

Maverick TV has signed Operation Ouch! exec Romily Menzies to oversee its children’s factual brands.

Menzies has held a variety of freelance roles on Maverick’s CBBC hit since its 2012 launch and was also behind recent spin-off Do Try This At Home with Chris and Xand, which was forged as a response to Covid-19.

She will be handed full oversight of the All3Media-backed producer’s kids factual slate in her exec producer post, continuing to exec the van Tulleken Twins-fronted format along with its forthcoming BBC Sounds podcast.

During a 20-year career, she has worked on the likes of Blue Peter, Come Dine With Me and Take Me Out, along with Robert Winston’s A Child Against All Odds and Little Angels while with the BBC’s in-house specialist factual and science units.

Maverick chief executive Simon Knight said she had been “instrumental in turning the Ouch! brand into a global success”.

“Her deft touch in formats coupled with her deep understanding of younger audiences makes her the ideal choice to help Maverick realise its further ambitions in creating global programming for children,” he added.

Menzies described the post as a “dream job”.
