The quarter final of Love Production’s baking format failed to set pulses racing, losing around 300,000 viewers on last week’s series high of 8.3m (37.4%).

Bake Off was still easily the highest-rated show of the day and made light work of rival Celebrity Squares, which fell to a series low of 2.6m (11.3%) in its third week for ITV, according to overnight Barb data provided by Attentional.

Elsewhere, BBC2 launched The Long Shadow in the 8pm slot. The series charting the legacy of World War I debuted with 1.8m (8.1%), which was roughly in line with BBC2’s slot average of 1.9m (8.6%) for the past 12 months.

Our Zoo (BBC1) 9pm-10pm
4m (19%)

BBC1’s family drama recovered from last week’s series low, but did not have enough to hold off Scott & Bailey, which beat it for a third week on the trot.

ITV’s crime drama, which is produced by Red Production Company, continued with an audience of 4.2m (19.7%) - its worst performance of the series.

Grand Designs was next in line for Channel 4 with 2.5m (11.6%), beating Channel 5’s Can’t Pay? We’ll Take it Away, which drew 1.7m (7.8%).

BBC2’s This World: Terror at the Mall pulled in 1m (4.9%).
