BBC bosses are having difficulty filling the factual and learning co-director post which became vacant when the department's co-director Lorraine Heggessey was named BBC 1 controller four months ago, writes Georgina Lipscomb.
BBC insiders claim the post is regarded as a 'non-job' now the restructure of the department has been implemented.The position, which involves working alongside Michael Stevenson, has not been filled since Heggessey was promoted in October last year.Controller of specialist factual programming Glenwyn Benson has taken on the role on a temporary basis but has made it clear she does not want the job permanently.ITV controller of documentaries and features Dianne Nelmes is also thought to have turned down the post.Deputy director of news Richard Sambrook was thought to be a firm favourite, but is now in the running to become director of news.A BBC spokeswoman told Broadcast: 'It is taking time because we want to make sure the right person is appointed.'- The BBC is 'in talks with a number of people' in its search to replace head of light entertainment David Young. LWT head of comedy Lisa Clark is said to have been approached.
