BBC Bectu members agree trial of new working practices in last minute deal

The BBC has avoided the immediate danger of technician's strike that could have disrupted the re-launch of its new Breakfast programme next week by agreeing a last-minute compromise with members of engineering union Bectu, writes Tara Conlan.

In an eleventh hour deal, BBC Bectu members agreed to a six week trial of new working practices for the early morning programme which is due to start on 2 October. Bectu was concerned about the number of technicians slated to work in the gallery.

The union is also balloting staff over proposals to transfer BBC staff to new commercial arm BBC Technology Ltd.
