ITV's Rugby World Cup Final coverage (ISN/Granada Sport) took best sports programme at the London Hilton ceremony on Monday (24 May), while the BBC's Grand National preview took best sports show or series.

Veteran BBC and C4 cricket commentator Richie Benaud was handed a lifetime achievement award, while the BBC's Martin Hopkins was handed the judges' award.

The sports feature prize went to the BBC's Grand National: Johnny Vegas - Super Jockey , while C4 bagged best sports documentary for Granada's The Real John Curry.

Steve Cram was named best commentator for his BBC work and former athlete Michael Johnson best sports pundit. The BBC's Clare Balding took the award for best sports presenter.

BBC Sunday Grandstand won the innovation award for Silverstone Flying Lap , while ITV's Rugby World Cup Final was chosen as best creative sports sequence.

BBC Northern Ireland won regional sports programme for Big Six and best regional sports actuality programming for The Championship. Best regional presenter or commentator went to Granada TV's Alistair Mann.

Best sports news reporter went to Sue Turton at ITN for Channel 4 News and best live OB went to C4 cricket (Sunset + Vine). BSkyB did not enter.
