International ruling states www.bbcnews.com must return to broadcasting corporation
The BBC has won back the rights to the domain name www.bbcnews.com, following an international ruling.

The World Intellectual Property Organisation ordered the current registrants, Data Art Corporation of California and Stonybrook of Belize, to transfer the domain name to the BBC. The companies had been using the url to attract business to gambling sites.

The ruling is believed to be the first under the arbitration proceedings against what has been dubbed 'cyberflying'.

BBC intellectual property lawyer Saul Venit said: 'Once again, this case shows that the BBC will take firm action against those who seek to exploit its valuable trademark on the internet.'
