Former Gordon Brown spokesman Iain Bundred is due to start March 2025
The BBC has appointed the head of policy for YouTube UK and Europe to be its next director of policy and public affairs.
Iain Bundred is due to start in March next year and will lead engagement with the UK government, devolved administrations and the metro mayors, alongside Ofcom, trade bodies and others.
It comes after former policy director Clare Sumner left to join the Premier League as chief policy and corporate affairs officer in January 2024.
Bundred is a former Labour party senior press officer and political spokesman for Gordon Brown during his time as prime minister, subsequently working for PR consultancies Portland and Ogilvy.
“I’m delighted to be joining a brilliant team at such a crucial time,” he said.
“The BBC has been at the heart of our society for more than a century and I’m thrilled to be playing a part as we plot a course for the future.
“I look forward to making the case for the creativity, strength and growth of the BBC and the whole of the industry.”
