The trio are to present Mary, Mel and Sue’s Surprise Party (w/t), produced by BBC Studios.
The hour-long show will follow the presenters’ attempts to create a Christmas dinner for a small community in South Wales.
In the small town, which has suffered from the closure of its school and post office, a group of volunteers have opened a community centre which hosts an annual Christmas dinner.
This year, Mary, Mel and Sue will take the place of the regular volunteers.
The show is produced by BBC Studios Unscripted Productions and was commissioned by BBC director of content Charlotte Moore and head of popular factual and factual entertainment commissioning David Brindley.
Jon Swain, Michael Jochnowitz and Becky Clarke will exec produce.
Brindley said: “What could be a more joyful Christmas treat than reuniting the brilliant Mary, Mel and Sue around such a heart-warming, important event? I can’t wait to see the reaction of the community they’re surprising, as our trio shine a light on those who have gone the extra mile to make life a little easier for their neighbours.”
BBC Studios head of Unscripted Productions Swain added: “They’re three of the most talented women on British television and they will bring monster helpings of joy and laughter to our screens this Christmas with this exciting new format.”
