The BBC is to screen a one-off, fly-on-the-wall documentary following the progress of new actors on two of its flagship soaps.
One actor in Casualtyand two in Holby Citywill be followed from their first audition to their debut on screen for the BBC1 programme.
BBC creative head of entertainment events Bea Ballard has been commissioned to make the 60-minute as-yet-untitled piece as one of the highlights of the BBC's first Talent Week in March.
"We are looking at an existing process that is already happening instead of inventing an entire contest," Ballard said. "A lot of it is looking at what goes on behind the scenes of a big drama."
BBC Talent Week, which will include a range of shows celebrating new talent, sits within the existing BBC Talent initiative, which is dedicated to finding and developing new talent. In the three years it has been running, it has created over 34 schemes which have resulted in more than 400 on-screen roles and contracts.
