BBC 1 controller Lorraine Heggessey and controller of drama commissioning Jane Tranter have ordered a second series of courtroom drama Judge John Deed. The 8 x 60-minute series, starring Martin Shaw as the irrepressible judge, will return in the new year. It will be produced by Gordon Newman and executive produced by Mal Young. Waking the Dead, starring Sue Johnston and Trevor Eve, has also been recommissioned. The new 6 x 60-minute police series about 'cold cases' will air in the 'crime doubles' slot from the spring. It will be produced by Victoria Fea and executive produced by Alexei de Keyser.
