Independent Brighter Pictures has won its first commission from Sky One, a 7 x 30-minute look at the undercover world of amateur espionage, writes John Plunkett.
The Spy Next Door was commissioned by Sky One director of programming Jamie Roberts and will air early next year.

Produced by Nav Raman and directed by Alice Barnet and Christian Trumble, the series will look at the way ordinary people keep an eye on each other, from pen-cams and thermal imaging to CCTV.

To be executive produced by Gavin Hay and Remy Blumenfeld, The Spy Next Door will also feature a resident expert who guides viewers around the best gadgets for each eavesdropping scenario.

The Brixton-based indie is also producing Flava on the Line for Channel 4, a millennium spin-off of its long-running Flava music show for C4's On the Line season celebrating the culture and the people who live on the meridian line.

The 60-minute special will explore music and youth culture in countries including the UK, Spain and Ghana. It is being produced by Hay and Blumenfeld, with Atul Malhotra directing.

C4 has also commissioned Brighter for two new factual entertainment series for early next year.
