Norwegian format The Yacht and two dating shows among key shows to be launched in Cannes

BBC Studios has unveiled its format slate for Mipcom later this month, with a boat-based reality show from Norway and a Spanish AI-led dating project among its key titles, Broadcast International can reveal.

The Yacht features 12 guests ready to compete in a reality show with daily challenges that will see contestants go head-to-head to win cash and avoid elimination.

But while the guests are playing the game, unknown to them, every interaction and decision carries more weight than they realise, with the format exploring how people act when they think no one is watching.

The Yacht was developed in the UK by Rebel Rebel, the former BBCS label founded by Simon Shalgosky and Daniel Brookes, who have since moved to Sony Pictures Television. The show was commissioned by NRK in Norway and is being produced by BBC Studios Norway.

The Big Date, meanwhile, follows 100 singles whose perfect partner has been chosen for them by a cutting-edge AI system.

The format, produced by Spanish firm Incís for regional broadcaster 3Cat, tracks the singles to explore whether they choose to follow their hearts or AI to find love.

Also on the dating front is Silent Attraction, which has been produced and developed by BBC Studios Sweden for public broadcaster SVT.

The format takes conservative men and progressive women who meet at intimate, silent dates - from dancing to spa experiences - where they have to trust their instincts.

After ranking their strongest connections, matched couples finally get the chance talk to each other but are faced with the reality of having opposing values.

BBCS is also taking its Dancing with The Stars: The Next Pro format to Mipcom for the first time, after it recently debuted on ABC in the US.

The show follows 12 dancers battling for the opportunity to become a professional dancer on Dancing with the Stars, which is also produced by BBCS.

Mentors guide the aspiring dozen through a series of workshops, before they must prove their skills to judges. BBC Studios LA Production is behind the format.

Matt Forde, BBCS’s president of Global Productions, said the new formats being unveiled underlined the “huge potential” for the company to expand its reach in the genre.

“Our international production network gives us access to incredible creative talent and expertise, and the ability to develop ideas in one market and take them around the world as we have done with The Yacht. The formats we’re bringing to Mipcom demonstrate the ambition and range of our reality pipeline, and we’re excited to put them in front of buyers.”

The quartet will be presented to buyers at Mipcom during the Reality Check: A New Era of Unscripted Formats session on Monday 12 October, 14:30–15:30CET.
