Search for replacement has begun for role that will now be based out of London

BBC Studios’ president of global content sales, Janet Brown, is stepping down from the company later this year, Broadcast International has learned.

Brown joined BBCS in 2022 from Gunpowder & Sky as president of content distribution for North America and Latin America, before being appointed to her most recent role in October 2024.

She oversaw distribution around the world, centralising global operations and content investment, and reported into BBCS’s then head of global media and streaming, Rebecca Glashow.

Glashow departed in September last year, with her distribution and content sales remit coming under the purview of London-based Zai Bennett, BBCS Productions chief exec and chief creative officer.

US-based Brown is now following suit and will depart in April, having helped to drive sales at BBCS to record levels, putting the company back at the top of the Broadcast Distributor Survey last year with an 11% year-on-year rise in distribution turnover to £402m.

Her exit comes amid a broader distribution rejig at BBCS, which has made the president of global content sales a London-based role.

Brown has chosen not to relocate to the UK and is understood to instead be pursuing new opportunities, with BBCS kicking off its search for a London-based replacement.

The position will work more closely with Bennett, as well as genre managing directors and global production leads, overseeing all markets globally including the UK.

All current BBCS content sales leadership roles and reporting lines remain unchanged.

Bennett said: “This strategic change looks to the future and will support us building a truly unified content studio that combines world-class production with global sales excellence.

“Janet has made an indelible contribution to our business, we are deeply grateful for her leadership and commitment - and wish her every success in her next chapter.”
