Formation of label comes alongside two projects in development with Netflix

Beef creator Lee Sung Jin has launched a production label and unveiled two projects in development with Netflix.
Lila Pictures has been formed six months after his multi-year overall deal with the streamer was extended.
The company will focus on developing original projects across film and television for the Beef creator to executive produce, write and direct.

It has also appointed Hyunji Ward as senior vice president of film & TV at the nascent label, which will also invest in third-party projects.
Lee will continue to create new projects across scripted series and feature films exclusively for Netflix, with two scripted projects revealed.
Limited series The Only Child reunites Lee’s longtime collaborator Ali Wong (Beef) and playwright Ava Wong Davies (Industry), with the latter playing the mother of a professional archer preparing to compete for her first gold medal.
Citizen’s Arrest has been created by fellow Beef alum Gene Hong and follows two longtime friends and neighbours whose obsession with solving a local crime becomes an escape from the private crises neither is ready to face.
Lee Sung Jin said: “I’m excited to launch Lila Pictures with the support of my creative home at Netflix and the help of Hyunji Ward, our new SVP of Film and TV.
“In Sanskrit, lila can be interpreted as ‘the divine play,’ and I’m grateful to reflect that through film and television, alongside close friends and collaborators like Ali Wong and Gene Hong. This is just the beginning. There will also be merch.”
