LL Cool J to reprise role in latest expansion of franchise, with R Scott Gemmill writing
US broadcaster CBS has unveiled an NCIS spin-off among its 2026/27 slate, with The Pitt creator R. Scott Gemmill attached.
NCIS: New York will see LL Cool J reprising his role in the franchise as special agent Sam Hanna, who returns to his hometown and partners with a roguish special agent (Scott Caan) to solve crimes.

CBS Studios produces, with Gemmill - who was showrunner on NCIS: Los Angeles - writing the pilot and exec producing with Byron Balasco, LL Cool J and Jason Barrett. Balasco is showrunner.
Other new shows hitting the Paramount-owned broadcaster’s schedule are previously announced legal drama Cupertino, from The Good Wife duo Rober and Michelle King, and Matthew Gray Gubler and Melissa Fumero-starring drama Einstein.
The other new show on the slate is Vampire love story Eternally Yours, from CBS Studios and Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, the duo behind CBS’s US remake of BBC format Ghosts.
Eternally Yours follows two vampires who have been married for 500 years and explores their struggles to accept the human who is dating their daughter.
CBS is also returning 19 series, including Yellowstone spin-off Marshals and Jerry Bruckheimer Television trio Sheriff Country, Fire Country and Boston Blue.
Dramas FBI, CIA and Harlan Coben’s Final Twist will air Mondays, with NCIS, the New York spin-off and NCIS: Origins making up the Tuesday line-up.
Unscripted duo Survivor and The Amazing Race lead Wednesdays, with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Eternally Yours, Elsbeth and Cupertino airing Thursdays.
Bruckheimer’s Sheriff Country, Fire Country and Boston Blue lead Fridays, with Marshals and Tracker airing Sunday evenings.
“CBS broadcasts the most-watched entertainment shows in the country and continues to launch more every season,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment.
“We’ll build on that this fall by expanding the powerful NCIS franchise, introducing a new original drama from the creators of The Good Wife and Elsbeth and a new comedy from the acclaimed duo behind Ghosts. This all adds up to another schedule built for launching new hits, scaling audiences and growing content value.”
