Netflix, Apple unveil Drive to Survive deal
Apple TV has struck a deal that will see the eighth season of Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive to Survive becoming available on its service in the US.
The show will be available to stream on both Netflix (globally) and Apple TV (US only), tracking the thrills, shake-ups, and triumphs of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship.
The deal comes as Apple TV becomes the exclusive US broadcaster for Formula 1. As part of the collaboration, Netflix will air the 2026 Canadian Grand Prix live to viewers in the US in May.
Christian Broadhurst upped by Rare TV
Rare TV has promoted vice-president of US development Christian Broadhurst to senior vice-president of development and production, while landing a 20-part series order from US broadcaster Outdoor Channel.
Broadhurst has spent the past decade at Rare, securing 144 hours of US primetime commissions in his role overseeing US creative production, and overseeing a further 100-plus hours as an exec producer since 2019.
His promotion follows the continued success of Smithsonian Channel’s Ice Airport Alaska, which was recently recommissioned for a seventh series, and Extreme Airport Africa. Life on the Edge (Outdoor Channel), Eyewitness D-Day (National Geographic) and Ross Kemp: Searching for Michael Jackson’s Zoo (ITV).
Animal Control gets Fox extension
Fox Entertainment has renewed workplace comedy Animal Control, starring Joel McHale, for a fifth season.
The single camera comedy is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios and executive produced by Bob Fisher (Wedding Crashers), Rob Greenberg (Frasier), Dan Sterling (Long Shot), showrunner Tad Quill (Scrubs), and McHale.
The series follows a group of local animal control workers whose lives are complicated by the fact that animals are simple, but humans are not.
Airing on Fox and streaming partner Disney+/Hulu, Animal Control is distributed worldwide by Fox Entertainment Global. In addition, the first three seasons of the series are currently streaming on Netflix.
