Abbot Elementary duo set Netflix comedy
Netflix has greenlit an adaptation of Justin Halpern’s autobiography I Suck at Girls, with Kayo Martin, Jeremy Ray Taylor and Laila Pruitt starring.
Halpern is showrunner, writer and exec producer, alongside fellow Abbott Elementary alum Patrick Schumacker for Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions.
Other exec producersa are Bill Lawrence (Shrinking), Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer for Doozer Productions, with Chet Dave for Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions.
The show follows three awkward high school students as they stumble through the messy world of teenage romance and identity.
Amazon MGM Studios hire WBD alum
Warner Bros Discovery exec Buddy Marini has joined Amazon MGM Studios as its head of Japan.
He will lead alll development and production for Amazon MGM Studios in the country, including scripted and unscripted. He reports into head of international, Nicole Clemens.
Marini was most recently leading WBD in the country, with a remit across streaming, pay TV, licensing and original production. He was previously chief exec at Hulu Japan.
The Swan heads to Hulu
Hulu has ordered a documentary about two-decade-old makeover series The Swan from UK producer Expectation.
The Swan aired on Fox for two series from 2004 and is considered one of the most controversial reality series of all time due to the extensive use of plastic surgery as part of the makeovers it gave its participants.
Expectation’s untitled film promises to pull the curtain back on the series and will feature the people who made it and the women whose lives were forever changed by it.
Colin Barr will exec produce for Expectation with the doc produced and directed by Erin Lee Carr, who previously worked with Hulu on docuseries Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini, Fanatical: The Catfishing of Tegan and Sara, and Trophy Wife: Murder on Safari. ABC extends 9-1-1 and HPI adaptation
Disney-owned ABC has extended 9-1-1 and spin-off 9-1-1 Nashville into their tenth and second seasons respectively, with the US adaptation of High Potential also securing another season.
The 9-1-1 shows are both from Ryan Murphy, with 20th Television producing.
High Potential stars Kaitlin Olson and is also produced by 20th Television, with the series based on the French series HPI.
US showrunner Todd Harthan has exited the second season of the ABC show to work on Eragon, with a replacement yet to be named.
