Korea’s Something Special names co-chief exec

JinWoo Hwang’s South Korean production banner Something Special has promoted InSoon Kim to co-chief exec and chief business officer amid a reshuffling of its senior team.

Kim joined Something Special in 2019 and was most recently exec vice president & head of content at the company, hjaving previously been head researcher at the Korean government-backed Digital Media Content Formatting Lab.

She is alos credited with taking charge of producing Korea’s first-ever format bible for SBS’s entertainment show Star Junior Show, and also had stints at CJ ENM.

Credits include Genius Game, Super Diva, 3 Idiots, and Who Wants to Be A Millionaire.

Something Special has also upped development head Moonyoung Song, who has been with the company since 2021, to become vice president.

She has developed Something Special original unscripted shows including Unforgettable Duet and The Underdogs (w/t), is to being launched later this year.

The Seoul-based firm has also appointed Donggil Seo as head of production/chief producer, taking on his remit from Jacob (Jongbin) Han, who recently left to teach at Kyonggi University.

Seo was previously a development producer at the UK’s Remarkable TV and went on to work with JTBC in Korea. Credits include Ready, Cook, Deliver for JTBC, and Vocalplay: Campus Music Olympiad for Korea’s Channel A.

Hwang described Kim as “an instrumental part of our ongoing success”, adding: “Her insight and creativity have led the team to do their very best. Along with the promotion of Moonyoung to VP and the new head of production, the knowledgeable Donggil, they are going to be key to our next growth level.”
