Hit shows from John de Mol’s SBS6 to also become available via streamer in the Netherlands
Netflix has struck a first-of-its-kind content pact with John de Mol’s Talpa in the Netherlands, replicating similar deals struck by rival streamer Disney+.
The agreement, which marks the first time Netflix and Talpa have joined forces in such a way, will see more than 300 episodes being available to subscribers of the global streamer in the Netherlands.

Programming includes family series Chateau Meiland and reality series Het Roer Om, as well as accompanying series Hoe Is Het Nu Met?.
Workplace reality show Overtreders. Mr. Frank Visser Doet Uitspraak, Waar Is Mijn Erfenis?, and Bureau Onrecht will also become available.
Financial details have not been revealed, nor when the shows will be rolled out on Netflix. However, Talpa said they would be available “soon” and sit alongside Netflix’s own Dutch productions, which include De Eetclub. It is set to launch 10 September.
The deal marks something of a new direction for Netflix in Europe. While the streamer struck a far-reaching domestic pact with TF1 last year that saw most of the French commercial broadcaster’s programming line-up becoming available on the streamer in June, it has not previously shared programming with domestic broadcasters at scale.
Disney, on the other hand, has agreed numerous bespoke deals over the past 12 months across Europe, including a partnership with ZDF in Germany, a handful of pacts in Spain including one with public broadcaster RTVE, and a smaller scale deal with Disney+ in the UK,
Marloes Sturkenboom, MD of Group Content & Global IP at Talpa, said: “We believe it is important that strong Dutch content continues to reach a broad audience. Viewers have long since stopped staying in one place.
“That is why, as part of our partnerships strategy, we are continuously looking for new ways to make Talpa content more widely available. With Netflix, we are giving a number of strong SBS6 titles an extra platform and reaching new viewers as well.”
Lucy Leveugle, vice president of EMEA Creative Strategy and Benelux Content, added: ”Talpa has been one of the driving forces behind Dutch non-fiction content for years, and we are delighted to partner with them to bring a selection of their most beloved programs to Netflix.
“This allows subscribers to enjoy more local stories they already know and appreciate, alongside the growing range of Dutch originals from De Eetclub, Haantjes, and Yolanthe to our own version of Love Is Blind. This makes Netflix the ultimate entertainment destination for the Dutch.”
Europe has become a testing ground for both Disney+ and Netflix over recent years as the global streamers look to increase reach.
The duo were also involved in a court case brought last year over local production spending, which saw a Belgian court reject an appeal by Netflix to scrap a law imposing financial obligations on streamers in the country’s French speaking Wallonia-Brussels region.
