Sanctuary star wataru Ichinose leads cast on first live-action series between companies

Netflix has struck its first live-action drama deal with Japan’s Nippon TV on a series that will debut early next year.
From NEET to Peak is a “heartwarming and exhilarating” romcom that tracks the life of a man has shut himself in his parents’ home for eight years, completely reliant on his mother’s care.
When his terminally ill mother reveals her dream of seeing him marry a woman she sees on a billboard, he resolves to fulfill her wish.
Sanctuary star Wataru Ichinose leads the cast alongside Suzu Hirose (Our Little Sister), who plays the woman of the man’s dreams.
Yu Irie (A Girl Named Ann) directs, with Shigeki Kaneko (Life’s Punchline) writing and Nippon TV producing.
Shinji Enari, the Japanese firm’s head of studio, said the show marked “the beginning of a new chapter in bringing our content to global audiences.”
Nippon TV has been looking to expand its international efforts over the past 18 months, launching a Global Strategy division in June and an LA-based hub in 2025 that is focused on unscripted projects.
It also struck a deal with Netflix earlier this year as part of the streamer’s efforts to offer local shows to subscribers.
Shinji Enari added: “Building on the storytelling and production expertise we have cultivated through years of drama creation, we are excited to share our works with more viewers around the world than ever before.
“Through this journey, we will continue to evolve and grow as a creative group, delivering compelling stories that resonate across borders.”
