Local version of Race Across The World marks latest addition for Spanish public broadcaster
Spain’s RTVE has extended its international format acquisitions spree, this time picking up adventure competition show Race Across The World.
The deal was unveiled here at Conecta Fiction in Cuenca, Spain, and will see Banijay’s Zeppelin producing a celebrity-focused version for the broadcaster.
The format follows six pairs of celebs who travel across multiple stages on limited funds, with contestants knocked out if they finish last. The couples are not allowed to use air travel nor electronic devices, including phones, with the pairing who reach the final destination first securing a cash prize.
Race Across The World was created by All3Media’s Studio Lambert and is distributed by All3Media International. It has become a hit in the UK on the BBC, while local adaptations have also been created in the Netherlands, Denmark (Først til Verdens Ende), and Finland (Race Across the World Suomi).
A German version is also being prepared this year for ZDF, and another in Norway for Discovery.
Spanish public broadcaster RTVE has picked up a host of international formats over recent months, as reported by Broadcast International.
Last week, it picked up dating show Baggage from NBCUniversal Formats, with Mediawan’s Boomerang TV producing a local version titled ¿Algo que Declarar?.
The broadcaster is also launching its own version of classic US format Jeopardy and is home to adaptations of The Chase (aka El Cazador), The Dog House, The Floor, That’s My Jam, MasterChef, The Connection and Maestros de la Costura, an adaptation of The Great British Sewing Bee.
