The Spanish version will be known locally as La Piramide and is being produced by RTVE in collaboration with Mediapro Studio’s label Globomedia.

It will premiere on flagship channel La1 and streamer RTVE Play, with actress Itziar Miranda named as host.

The format features three teams of contestants chosen randomly from the audience who must guess words or phrases based on descriptions given by their teammates.

With the help of a celebrity assistant, the team with the most correct answers progresses to a final pyramid stage, where they can win a €100,000 prize. The program will be directed by Elías Segovia.

The format has been adapted in more than 20 countries, having originally launched on ABC in the US in 1973.

Spain’s RTVE has greenlit a raft of international formats over recent months, including adventure competition show Race Across The World last month.

It has also picked up dating show Baggage from NBCUniversal Formats, with Mediawan’s Boomerang TV producing a local version titled ¿Algo que Declarar?, and is launching its own versions of Jeopardy.

The broadcaster is already home to adaptations of The Chase (aka El Cazador), The Dog House, The Floor, That’s My Jam, MasterChef, The Connection and The Great Sewing Bee.
