Movistar Plus has restructured its content team in Spain amid an overhaul of operations at the Telefónica-owned streamer and pay TV company.

Juan Andrés García Ropero (Bropi) has been confirmed as director of content, with the division being restructured into four units to strengthen editorial capacity and boost original production, the company said.

Movistar Plus Originals, led by Bruna Hernando, will now house both fiction and non-fiction series; Spanish Cinema is being helmed by Guillermo Farré; development and external content is being overseen by Íñigo Trojaola; and Hugo Tomás is responsible for entertainment.

Sports is led by Enric Rojas, who also takes charge of business management, while executive producer Fran Araújo is among execs departing.

Movistar Plus+ director of drama and partnerships, Jorge Pezzi, left the Spanish streamer last week, following the exit of chief exec Daniel Domenjó in April.

He was replaced by the former exec chairman of Telefónica in Latin America, Alfonso Gómez Palacio. Bropi, meanwhile, was most recently head of sports at Movistar Plus and before that led entertainment, having joined from Globomedia in 2018.

Alfonso Gómez Palacio said the restructuring signalled that Movistar Plus is now “entering a new phase with a clear ambition: to grow, invest in content, and offer more - and better - entertainment services to our customers.”

He added that telco owner Telefónica continued to see value in the Movistar Plus offering because “entertainment, sports, and distinctive content are increasingly important in our relationship with customers.”

The service has been growing in recent quarters, adding 86,000 net customers in Q1 2026 to take its total paid subs to 3.9 million.
