Public broadcaster’s short-form series comes in same week as commercial rival Atresmedia’s move into genre

Public broadcaster RTVE has become the latest Spanish media giant to move into microdramas with a romantic comedy series starring TikTok stars.
Stupid Cupid is being produced by Spanish producer Kokoro Content and has been slated to premiere next year on RTVE’s youth-focused Playz app and on its social media profiles.
The show, which is in production and will consist of episodes between one to three minutes long, is set at a boarding school and brings together local content creators including Sergio Bueno, Ricard García, and YosoyAnix.
RTVE is producing in collaboration with Kokoro, whose team has been behind Spanish YA hits ranging from Rabia for Atresmedia’s youth strand Flooxer and Area 34 for Playz.
While the show is RTVE’s first move into microdramas, it is not its first ‘vertical series’ designed to be viewed on mobile devices.
The broadcaster was previously behind An Unforgettable New Year’s Eve, which was produced in collaboration with Boomerang and released in 2019. It also ordered vertical horror series Circular, which was set in the Madrid metro area and produced with La Caña Brothers.
The order follows commercial rival Atresmedia’s move into the fast-growing microdrama medium earlier this week.
