Four-part drama Careless to be shot in Australia and Scotland

Australian streamer Stan has ordered a thriller from Colin From Accounts firm Easy Tiger Productions and Scotland’s Synchronicity Films, with Channel 4 striking a pre-sale deal for the four-part series.
Careless is written by Louise Fox (Glitch) and Christian White (Relic), with Stevie Cruz-Martin (Safe Home) directing. It will be shot in Glasgow and Sydney.
The show follows Scottish backpacker Robbie, who becomes a live-in carer for a notorious rock’n’roll star living in Sydney.
However, as he integrates into the family and with the rocker’s wife, it becomes clear that the backpacker is not who he seems.

The thriller, created by Helen Fitzgerald (The Cry) and Louise Fox (Broadchurch), is being produced for Stan in association with Channel 4, Stan parent Nine Network, global distributor All3Media International and Screen Scotland, supported by Screen NSW.
Solly McLeod (House of the Dragon), Robyn Malcolm (After The Party, which aired on C4 in 2024), Katie Leung (Bridgerton) and Richard Roxburgh (Rake) lead the cast.
Other cast includes Mabel Li (The Testaments), Thomas Weatherall (The Narrow Road To The Deep North) and Alison Peebles (Dept. Q).
Synchronicity previously worked with Stan on Tattooist of Auschwitz, which was produced for Sky in the UK, and was also behind The Cry for BBC1 and the ABC in Australia .
Nine Entertainment executive director of entertainment commissioning Michael Healy, described Careless as a “riveting and relentlessly compelling thriller”.
C4 head of acquisitions Polly Scates added: “Careless has all the ingredients of a great psychological thriller - a pacy script, layered characters, and plenty of menace and intrigue.
“But it also shines a light on how people can be failed by the very systems meant to protect them, and I think this combination will appeal to our viewers.”
Ian Collie and Rob Gibson, founder and chief exec of Easy Tiger respectively, said: “From the seed of the idea over a random London lunch with author Helen Fitzgerald to its evolution as a compelling psychosexual thriller, it has been our privilege and joy to support the talented writing team of Lou Fox and Christian White and the brilliant direction of Stevie Cruz-Martin and her gifted cast and crew.”
Synchronicity founder and creative Claire Mundell added: “Louise and Helen have created a provocative, character-led thriller that asks difficult questions about power, intimacy and trust, and we’re thrilled to be bringing it to the screen with such outstanding creative partners.”
Screen NSW acting executive director Karla Lampe said the production will create more than 450 jobs in New South Wales.
Exec producers include Collie, Gibson and Angela Littlejohn for Easy Tiger, and Mundell and Deanne Cunningham for Synchronicity. Fox and Adrian Burns are also attached, alongside Stan’s Healy and Andy Ryan, and Kieran Hannigan for Screen Scotland.
Production investment came from Screen Scotland’s Broadcast Content Fund and Screen NSW’s Made in NSW TV Drama Fund.
