Starz has ordered a fifth spin-off of its hit franchise Power, reuniting the original series’ characters Tariq St Patrick and Tommy Egan.

Eight-part Power: Legacy sees the return of Egan (Jospeh Sikora) to New York, where he crosses paths with St Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) to make a mark in the city. Both characters originated in parent series Power over a decade ago and each went on to lead successful spin-offs Power Book II: Ghost and Power Book IV: Force, the latter of which concluded earlier this year.

Other spin-offs in the franchise are Power Book III: Raising Kanan and upcoming prequel Power: Origins, following the early years of fan favourites Egan and Ghost.

Gary Lennon will serve as showrunner and exec producer of Power: Legacy, which is based on a pilot script co-written by Lennon and Kendra Chapman Davis. Creator and showrunner of the original Courtney A. Kemp exec produces through her label, End of Episode, Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson through his G-Unit Film and Television, and Mark Canton, through Canton Entertainment.

Chapman Davis, Sikora and Chris Selak also exec produce, with Rainey Jr. serving as a producer.

Power: Legacy is co-produced by Starz and Lionsgate Television, marking a deviation from previous instalments in the franchise. By co-producing this series, Starz said it can participate fully in the ancillary and revenue opportunities generated by this latest spin-off, underscoring its strategy to expand ownership of its premium original programming and strengthen its catalogue of IP.

Kathryn Busby, president of original programming at Starz, said: “The fans have spoken, and we listened. Power doesn’t die, it evolves with its audience, and for over a decade the Power Universe has remained at the forefront of culture.

“We’re thrilled to reunite Joseph and Michael to deliver a new chapter that fuses the franchise’s iconic legacy with bold, boundary-pushing storytelling.”

Lennon added: “It’s going to be electrifying to see if these two men can share the city, the game and the intoxicating drug known as Power.”
