Deal marks the third pick-up of MBC’s competition reality format across the Nordics
Sweden’s SVT has become the third Nordic broadcaster to remake South Korean survival format Bloody Game, following a deal with Banijay Entertainment.
The format was originally produced by MBC and is being produced in Sweden by Meter/Jarowskij.
The high-stakes competition reality series sees contestants facing psychosocial and physical challenges while living in a house cut off from the outside world. Players must form alliances, manipulate rivals, and engage in strategic conspiracies to avoid elimination.
Bloody Game has already been remade for TV2 in Norway and Danish streamer TV 2 Play, produced by Mastiff Norway and Nordisk Film TV Denmark respectively.
The show, which became a major hit on Korean streamer Wavve, is represented by Banijay Entertainment in nine European markets, including France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and across the Nordics.
Madelene Hansson, chief exec of Meter/Jarowskij, said: “Bloody Game pushes boundaries and taps into the raw emotional dynamics of competition, manipulation and survival.
“Nordic audiences have a strong appetite for socially charged formats that reflect human behaviour, and following its success in Norway and Denmark, we’re confident Swedish viewers will be gripped from the very first episode.”
Helen Greatorex, head of format acquisitions at Banijay Entertainment, added: “South Korea remains a hotbed of innovation and creativity, and Bloody Game is a proven example of how its storytelling travels globally.”
