A24, AMC shows head to HBO Max

HBO Max has struck deals with A24 and AMC Global Media for two shows that will debut on the streamer next month.

The licensing agreement with A24 spans first-run and later-window films and series, alongside a selection of catalogue titles. Full details haven't been revealed but the package includes psychological horror hit Backrooms, Born To Bowl, The Whale, Warfare and Moonlight.

The pact with AMC, meanwhile, will see The Audacity S1 and S2 heading to HBO Max, debuting in the UK and Ireland on 22 October, with season two to follow exclusively on the platform in 2027.

Other titles include Line of Duty S1-S6, Oddity and The Spine of Night. Deals were struck by Sasha Breslau, vice president of content acquisitions & programming, UK & Ireland.

Charlie & Martin Sheen link for AMC comedy

AMC and AMC+ has greenlit a half-hour family comedy from AMC Studios that stars Charlie Sheen and Martin Sheen as a father and son.

Happy Jack will start production in LA early next year on a six-episode first season and premiere on AMC and AMC+ in 2027.

Writers, executive producers and co-showrunners are Jim Patterson and Matt Ross, who previously worked together on Two and a Half Men and The Ranch. Sheen, Todd Christopher, The Tannenbaum Company and 20th Television are among EP's.

The comedy features a father who gets a second chance to play a bigger role in his daughters' lives. It is being launched to international buyers at Mipcom in October. The series will be filmed in front of a live audience at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, in the same studio where Friends was filmed.

LADbible moves into long form

The UK's LADbible Stories is stepping into long-form with a feature-length documentary about Douglas Stilgoe, known online as Nemo the Mormon.

LADbible Groups head of originals Becky Gardner said the documentary, titled Nemo the Mormon: Faith on Trial, marks “an important next step for LADbible, reflecting our commitment to pushing boundaries in factual storytelling with ambitious, long-form documentaries for young audiences.”

The documentary follows Stilgoe, a third-generation member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, whose outspoken criticism of the Church ultimately led him to being summoned to a membership council and accused of apostasy. Read more
