Netflix marks decade in South Africa with new shows
Netflix has marked a decade of being available in South Africa by unveiling a raft of new series and films, including the latest instalment to its How To Ruin franchise.
The shows - revealed at a press showcase in Johannesburg led by Africa and Middle East chief Ben Amadasun - includes Blood Legacy S2 and How to Ruin Diwali: Meet The Parents from Burnt Onion Productions, in collaboration with producer, Jayan Moodley (The Kandasamys).
Netflix also revealed that Dineo and Zothile ‘Solo Ntsizwa’ Langa would be hosts of Love is Blind: South Africa, produced by afrOkaans and slated for release later this year.
Other upcoming shows include wedding docu-soap, Stars & Vows: Anele and Buzza from Dopezuluboi Productions, which will launch on the service later this year.
UK’s C4 to cut 28% of roles
Channel 4 is to shed more than a quarter of its workforce as part of a major transformation designed to give it greater firepower for content spend.
In an all-staff meeting today, chief executive Priya Dogra revealed the PSB would be cutting approximately 340 roles, 28% of its workforce. C4 will begin a formal consultation process with affected employees in due course. The broadcaster said the move will usher in a “new organisational design” centred on:
- Reducing management layers
- Simplifying decision-making
- Removing duplication
The changes will “create a leaner, more efficient operating model”, the broadcaster added, which would “greatly reduce non-programming spend”, allowing the broadcaster to deploy appropriate resource to its content teams. Read more
