Mythological Ex was previously picked up for remake by CBS almost two decades ago and by Televisa in 2018
Germany’s ZDF has commissioned a local adaptation of Keshet International’s scripted relationship format Mythological Ex, with Maxton Hall’s Tarek Roehlinger directing.
The six-part romantic comedy is produced for ZDFneo by Keshet Germany under the working title My Ex.
Elena Hell (Sisi) and Marcus Pfeiffer (Beckenrand Sheriff) are writing the German version of the format, which was remade by CBS in the US in 2008 and by Mexico’s Televisa a decade later.
The original show was created, written and directed by Sigal Avin (Losing Alice) and produced by Mosh Danon (Inosan Productions) for Israeli network Keshet 12.
The German version of the story, which is filming in the Czech Republic, tracks an interior designer who is told by a modern-day oracle that she has already met the love of her life, but broken up with them.
Jasmin Verkoyen, commissioning editor at ZDF, described the show as “a heartfelt and modern love story that explores how looking back can sometimes be the key to moving forward.”
Verkoyen added the adaptation “blends humour, heart and a touch of magic into a binge-worthy experience” and would appeal to ZDFneo’s younger demo.
Palina Rojinski (Where’s Wanda) leads the cast, with Helgi Schmid (Sleeping Dog), August Wittgenstein (The Crown), Caro Cult (Babylon Berlin), Max Schimmelpfennig (Crystal Wall), Caro Daur (All for Ella) and Alli Neumann (Jerks) also attached.
Keshet Germany is behind recently launched satire Messiah Superstar for ProSiebenSat.1-owned streamer Joyn, as well as drama Der Schatten for ZDFneo and the German adaptation of Israeli black comedy Stockholm, known locally as Unter Freunden Stirbt Man Nicht for RTL+.
