ITV secured 80% of TV viewing at the peak

ITV Sport World Cup 2026

England’s 2-0 victory over Panama saw ITV attract a 13.76 million peak audience across its channels.

The game, which was England’s final World Cup group stage fixture, was available across ITV1, STV, ITVX, and STV Player. At its peak, the linear coverage secured 80% of the TV viewing audience at the time.

This was a slight drop on the Three Lions’ other group stage matches, with a 16.4 million peak for ITV’s channels during the opener v Croatia and a 15.4 million peak for their 0-0 draw with Ghana in the second fixture on the BBC. Both of those games kicked off earlier, and there was less riding on the Panama game with England likely already through to the next round.

Overall, ITV claims to have shown seven out of the top 10 biggest matches to date, including England’s two winning games, the opening match of the tournament, Mexico vs South Africa, as well as Norway vs France, Netherlands vs Japan, Scotland vs Morocco, and Germany vs Cote D’Ivoire.

England will face DR Congo in the round of 32, with the BBC set to air the game at 5pm on Wednesday 1 July.
