Dramatic finale saw Senegal leave the pitch in protest before coming back to win the trophy

1.7 million tuned into the Africa Cup Of Nations final on E4 and another 700,000 through Channel 4 streaming.
Senegal won the trophy in dramatic fashion, after the team had left the pitch in protest following a controversial penalty given to opponent and home nation Morocco. They later returned to the pitch, Morocco missed the penalty, and Senegal went on to win in extra time.
The total streaming numbers are still being collated. For E4, the 1.7 million was a 19% share of the 16-34 audience, up 614% on the overnight slot average for the demographic.
Channel 4 picked up the rights to the Africa Cup Of Nations in December, and its coverage was produced by IMG. IMG also facilitated the rights deal between the broadcaster and the federation, CAF, as the tournament’s exclusive rights distributor.
This was the first time that the competition has been exclusively shown in full on free-to-air TV in the UK.
