Podcast will aim to drive debate on Meta-owned social media platform

The Athletic FC Podcast has partnered with Threads for the World Cup and beginning of the regular football season.
The podcast will aim to extend podcast conversations onto the Meta-owned social media platform and encourage fans to share their views, reactions, and debates in real time, through features such as Threads Discussion of the Day. The pair hope this will make Threads, “a go-to space for football conversation.”
The first Athletic FC podcast segment will go live on Threads today, 25 June, with football fans able to listen directly on the platform.
Cris Bowyer, sports partnerships at Meta, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with The Athletic for the World Cup and 2026/27 football season. This summer’s tournament is set to be the most-talked about sporting event of all time and our ambition is to make Threads the number one destination for sports conversation.
“At Meta, we aim to partner with the biggest and best sports partners and we can’t wait to see the stories, analysis and discussion that The Athletic FC will bring for fans this summer via their podcast and on Threads.”
