1am kick off time means many viewers may not be able to watch live

BBC Sport 2026 World Cup

BBC Sport has created a spoiler free experience for England’s World Cup Last 16 clash with Mexico.

The game kicks off at 1am Monday morning, meaning that many won’t be able to watch the match live. For those that do stay up, the game will be shown on BBC1 and iPlayer, alongside live text coverage and in-match clips across the BBC Sport website and app and the BBC’s immersive 3D experience

For those who decide to catch up in the morning, they will be able to wake up to a completely spoiler free iPlayer. They will then be able to tune into a full re-run on BBC2 at 7:10am or an on-demand re-run that will be available from 6am. There will also be an extended 15-minute highlights programme on BBC iPlayer at bbc.co.uk/nospoilers and the BBC Sport Football YouTube channel, featuring every key moment alongside post-match analysis highlights from Kelly Cates, Wayne Rooney, Micah Richards and Joe Hart.

The BBC says this is, “the most comprehensive catch-up experience BBC Sport has ever offered for a World Cup knockout match.”

Alex Kay-Jelski, director of BBC Sport, says: “World Cup knockout football is absolutely unmissable, but a 1:00am kick-off isn’t realistic for everyone. We wanted to make sure there was an option for those fans who just can’t stay up to experience one of England’s biggest matches live. So, whether you’re staying up to watch every minute live or waking up to catch every moment spoiler-free, BBC Sport has you covered this Monday. From our exclusive live broadcast to our dedicated catch-up experience, we’re making it easier than ever for audiences to enjoy the World Cup on their terms.”
