Broadcasters share rights again, with 6% rise in fee

DAZN and Telefonica have won the domestic rights to LaLiga, and will continue to show five games-per-gameweek each.
The pair paid €5.25 billion (4.6bn) for five-year deals, up from €4.95 billion (£4.33bn) for the same agreements in 2021. Overall, LaLiga’s rights sales in the 2027/18 to 2031/32 cycle have grown to over €6.135 billion, up 9%.
In the UK, Premier Sports and Disney+ won the live rights, with Sky Sports, DAZN, the BBC, and The Rest Is Football podcast airing highlights. LaLiga revealed that free-to-air broadcasting and social media clips such as those with Sky Sports, DAZN, the BBC and The Rest Is Football, have raised €60 million (£52.52m) in rights fees.
There were also increases in the fess received for the second division LaLiga Hypermotion, Horeca (Hotel, Restaurant & Cafe) segment, and out of home rights, which you can see in the image below.

DAZN has spent big on these rights following pulling out of its rights for the Belgian Pro League this month, and France’s Ligue 1 earlier in the year. It continues to hold the domestic rights to Serie A, and the Bundesliga.
Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, said: “In today’s complex domestic and international landscape, securing over €6.135 billion in domestic rights and an overall growth of 9%, equivalent to more than €500 million over the previous cycle, is excellent news for the financial sustainability of our Clubs and the future of Spanish professional football.
“At a time when many leagues are experiencing declining media values, LALIGA’s continued growth and record highs are especially significant. This result reflects the strength of our product and the trust of broadcasters, largely driven by our committed fight against piracy, which has helped increase operators’ user bases, and by the Clubs’ dedication to enhancing audiovisual content and offering the best possible fan experience.”
