The England v Croatia match also delivered the biggest 16-34 audience of the year with 2.3 million younger viewers

A peak of 15.4 million viewers watched ITV’s coverage of England’s opening FIFA World Cup 2026 match against Croatia. It’s ITV’s highest peak audience of the year, ahead of The Traitors’ 9.8 million, and the highest peak audience on any channel or streamer since the UEFA EURO 2024 tournament.
It was also the biggest 16-34 audience this year with 2.3 million 16-34 viewers.
An average of 14.2 million viewers watched the match on TV, with an average of 10 million viewers watching the coverage from 8.00pm to 11.35pm.
The match was produced by ITV Sport Production, part of ITV Studios.
ITV Sport’s coverage continues this evening (Thursday 18 June), with Switzerland v Bosnia-Herzegovina kicking off at 8pm (with coverage from 7.15pm) and Canada v Qatar kicking off at 11pm (with coverage from 10.15pm).
Tomorrow night (Friday 19 June), Scotland play Morocco live on ITV1, STV, ITVX and STV Player with coverage from 10.15pm, and an 11pm kick off.
England vs Panama will be live from New Jersey on Saturday 27 June at 10pm UK time, on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player, with coverage from 9.15pm.
