Report claims organisation’s first women’s club competition is still without a broadcaster

Arsenal Women's Champions League EBU

FIFA is reportedly yet to sell the broadcast rights for the Champions Cup.

The organisation’s first women’s club competition is set to take place 28 January-1 February, and sees the winners of the continental competitions go head to head - similar to the old format of the men’s Club World Cup. Arsenal will represent Europe after winning the Champions League, and the final phase of semi-finals, third place playoff and final will take place in London - albeit with the exact stadium/s still unannounced.

According to the Guardian, FIFA hasn’t held a formal tender, but instead approached individual broadcasters in certain territories. WSL broadcasters Sky Sports and the BBC are apparently among these.

FIFA has had similar issues with rights sales in recent times, including with the last Women’s World Cup in 2023. After rejecting bids from UK and other European broadcasters, it eventually went to the BBC and ITV just a month before the tournament began. Similarly, the men’s Club World Cup went to DAZN only six months before the tournament began, after a long negotiation period.
