Footballco has appointed Xavi Sanchez as its executive head of video.

Sanchez will lead the editorial video output across Footballco’s portfolio of football media brands, which include Goal, Calciomercato (Italy), Spox (Germany), Voetballzone (Netherlands), and Kooora (MENA), as well as NXGN (youth football), Indivisa (women’s football), which launched earlier this year, and Mundial (cult print publication).

This includes the development, production and distribution of Footballco-owned entertainment video formats, led by Footballco’s newly announced player-led video strategy, which saw the signing of England and West Ham footballer Declan Rice earlier this year. He will report to Footballco’s SVP of content and creative, James Lamon.

Before Footballco, Sanchez was an account director for sports marketing agency, Engage Digital Partners leading on strategy, creative and production efforts for clients such as Real Madrid, Formula 1 and the NBA.

He also spent over two years with the Walt Disney Company as a creative producer where he developed digital IP for franchises and talent, including Star Wars and Marvel.

Sanchez said: ”I’ve come to Footballco at an exciting time with the company moving towards a video-first approach with investment in the development of new formats and premium player-led video.

“This role is a great opportunity to be at the centre of that transformation and to work in the most popular form of entertainment in the world, football.”

Lamon added: “Xavi joins Footballco with a wealth of experience working with some of the most loved entertainment brands in the world along with some of the biggest stars in football, such as David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane.

“With the World Cup at the end of the year and our player-led video strategy underway, I’m excited to see the work to come from Xavi’s team and response from our millions of fans.”
