3.8 million streamed France’s victory on iPlayer and BBC Sport

A peak audience of 10 million tuned into BBC1 to see France’s 2-0 victory over Morocco on 14 December.

Another 3.8 million streamed the Qatar 2022 World Cup semi-final on iPlayer and BBC Sport. This puts it in the top five most streamed matches for the BBC, behind leader England v Iran - which became the largest live streamed event on the BBC over a 24 hour period ever

The BBC has drawn large audiences thoughout the World Cup, including 18.7 watching England’s defeat of Wales in the group stages on all platforms. ITV had the rights to both of England’s knockout games, attracting the biggest audiences of the tournament to date with 20.4 million seeing England beat Senegal in the last 16 and 23 million watching the defeat to France in the quarter-finals.

Both the BBC and ITV will show the final between France and Argentina on Sunday, with the BBC1’s coverage beginning at 1.50pm and ITV slightly earlier at 1.30pm on Sunday 18 December. The third place play-off between Morocco and Croatia will be shown on BBC1 and iPlayer at 2.30pm on Saturday, 17 December.
