Managing director Rob Webster will reportedly be replaced by his deputy, Jonathan Licht.

Sky Sports’ managing director, Rob Webster, has reportedly resigned after 23 years in various positions at the company.

According to The Times, Webster has decided to leave the company after the effects of the pandemic on the broadcaster. His job had become very different to the one that he signed up to, claims the piece.

Deputy managing director, Jonathan Licht, is expected to replace Webster at the helm.

This decision comes after Webster led negotiations to renew the Premier League rights without an auction this year - the first time this has happened since 2006.

Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime, and BBC Sport rolled over their current live and non-live deals to the 2022/23 - 2024/25 seasons, an agreement which sees the Premier League avoid the fate of Serie A and Ligue 1 - which have had trouble selling their rights in recent times.

Meanwhile, Webster also recently navigated Sky Sports through the original Covid lockdowns, when the vast majority of sporting events were cancelled or postponed. The broadcaster allowed subscribers to pause their payments due to the lack of sport.
