Sky Sports has revealed that the 27-28 September was its most watched weekend ever.

8.8 million tuned into its channels to watch the Ryder Cup, Premier League, EFL, WSL, SPFL and Bundesliga football, rugby league, tennis and NFL.

This was largely driven by the Ryder Cup, with five million watching Team Europe defeat Team USA in the US for the first time since 2012. Average viewing for the competition across Sky Sports Golf and Sky Sports Main Event was up 45%.

On Sunday evening, one in four TV viewers were watching the dramatic end to the singles, including more than 40% of under-35s. The audience peak just after 22.00 for the nail-biting finale was the highest ever for golf on Sky Sports, eclipsing the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah and Rory McIlroy’s Masters win in April - which is still the most-watched day on Sky Sports ever
