9.9 million viewers tuned into BBC1 for Spain and Germany’s 1-1 draw at the World Cup on 27 November.

An additional 3.5 million streamed the match through iPlayer, which makes it the most-watched match without a home nation of this World Cup to date. It is the BBC’s third-most streamed match so far after Wales v Iran and the record-breaking England v Iran

33 World Cup matches are being shown by the BBC, with the rest on ITV and the final shared between the two broadcasters. This includes England v Wales, the final group stage game for the pair as well as home nation clash, which it likely hopes will draw a large audience on Tuesday evening, 29 November. In addition, Broadcast Sport spoke to BBC Sport executive producer Phil Bigwood about the BBC’s plans for the tournament, including sharing technical provision with ITV, addressing Qatar’s human rights issues, and its digital and social improvements.
