TNT Sports and discovery+ unveil Australian Open plans

TNT Sports and discovery+ will show every match of the Australian Open live. Its presentation team includes John McEnroe, Jim Courier and Mats Wilander. Live coverage of the main draw begins on Sunday (18 January).

Discovery+ will offer a multi-court service enabling viewers to choose and customise their viewing experience. Live coverage will also be available on TNT Sports, while daily free-to-air highlights will also be available on Quest. 

Laura Robson will front the coverage with the on-site line-up including John McEnroe, Jim Courier, Mats Wilander, Tim Henman, Barbara Schett, Alex Corretja, Justine Henin and Anne Keothavong, with CoCo Vandeweghe joining for the women’s singles semi-finals and finals.

The TNT Sports and discovery+ courtside show will begin 30-minutes ahead of the first night session each day, ahead of the second night session, and a 30-minute show will follow the conclusion of play. From the quarter-final stage, each singles match will also receive a pre and post-match show.

Alongside its live coverage, Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) will also premiere a feature-length documentary dedicated to one of the greatest matches of all time. The 2012 Australian Open men’s singles final saw Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal make history by completing the longest ever Grand Slam final, lasting five hours and 53 minutes.

WBD’s expert pundits John McEnroe, Jim Courier, Justine Henin, Alex Corretja, Nicolas Mahut and other tennis legends will revisit the match, which Djokovic won in five sets, to tell the story of the ultimate display of endurance, skill and determination.

The 60-minute documentary – The Match That Changed Tennis – will air on TNT Sports and discovery+ on 15 January at 10pm

Furthermore, TNT Sports’ websites and YouTube channels will serve up free daily highlights from The Australian Open in English. Longer eight-minute highlights will also be available to premium subscribers. Fans can also watch a series of ‘top fives’ each day on social media platforms in addition to discovering bonus content, player interviews and behind-the-scenes clips throughout the tournament captured by TNT Sports’ team of on-site reporters. 

The main draw of the 115th Australian Open runs from Sunday 18 January to Sunday 1 February with qualifiers taking place live on discovery+ from 12 January during Opening Week.

On 14 January as a pre-cursor to the main tournament, event organiser Tennis Australia has introduced a new Million Dollar 1 Point Slam which pits a total pool of 48 amateur players and celebrities against some of the world’s best. This line-up includes men’s world number one Carlos Alcaraz and home favourite Nick Kyrgios in a unique quest to win one million Australian dollars.
