The first competition is the Indoor Grand Prix on 19 February

UK Athletics events are returning to the BBC for 2022.

The organisation’s four major track and field events throughout the year will be shown by the broadcaster, starting with the Indoor Grand Prix on 19 February in Birmingham. It will be available on BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website and BBC Red Button.

The other three events to be aired are the UK Athletics Indoor Championships between 26-27 February, the Birmingham Diamond League on 21 May and the Muller UK Athletics Championships between 24-26 June.

The BBC’s last rights deal with UK Athletics ended in 2020, with the broadcaster claiming that a renewal wasn’t value for money.

The UK Athletics events join a host of athletics action on the BBC, including the Diamond League, World Athletics Championships, and the World Indoor Championships.

UK Athletics interim CEO Mark Munro said: “Athletics is given a brilliant platform by BBC Sport.

“We’re looking forward to working with the team there to bring great athletics performances into people’s homes in the year ahead.

“The audience reach of their website, Red Button and iPlayer platforms means in this stellar year for athletics events, it is more important than ever to maximise the exposure that the four major track and field championships will bring.”
