Satellite broadcaster to invest in,, e-commerce and ADSL as subscriber numbers hit 2.6 million
Satellite broadcaster BSkyB is to invest£250 million in its internet businesses over the next 18 months in an attempt to adapt its successful television model to the internet.

The company, which reported a half-year loss of£61.5 million, is also embarking on a joint-venture with Hull-based Kingston Communications to deliver content over copper telephone wires using ADSL technology.

BSkyB also said that it had signed 2.6 million subscribers to its digital television service and intended to sign up to 1.4 million more by the end of this year. The aggressive new target is likely to involve an earlier than expected switch-off of its analogue service.
